Two major Bollywood films are set to release this month: Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar” and Kartik Aaryan’s “Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri.” However, the Hollywood film “Avatar 3” will be a big challenge for both of them. Public enthusiasm for the film is already breaking records.
It’s been more than four months since Bollywood’s last blockbuster hit, “Saiyaara,” was released in July. It’s set to start in December, and the industry’s hopes are on two upcoming films. Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar” and Kartik Aaryan’s “Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri” are releasing in December. “Dhurandhar” is a powerful spy thriller, and the buzz around it is already building. The teaser for Kartik’s film was recently released and has received positive reviews.
But, to spoil the hype of these two films, a blockbuster Hollywood film is also coming, and the public is seeing a strong craze for it. This Hollywood phenomenon is so strong that it is threatening to cause significant damage not only to Bollywood but also to other Indian film industries.
The Indian audience is crazy for ‘Avatar 3: Fire and Ash’
James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” is set to release on December 19th. The success of “Avatar 2” in India ensured that the public would be incredibly excited for its sequel. Now, this excitement has been confirmed with significant figures. On the ticket booking platform BookMyShow, more than 1 million people have marked “interested” for “Avatar: Fire and Ashes,” even though the film’s release is still far away.
Films that garnered over 1 million pre-release interest on BookMyShow include KGF 2 and Baahubali 2. This alone can be gauged by the public’s craze for this film.

‘Avatar 3’ poses a threat to these Indian films
The release timing of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” also known as “Avatar 3,” is such that it could undermine several major Indian films. The film is releasing on December 19th. Kartik Aaryan’s “Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri” is also releasing on the same day. Kartik’s film also clashes with Agastya Nanda and Dharmendra’s “21” film.
Meanwhile, in the South, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s major film “Vrishabha” is also releasing on the same day. Malayalam fans are eagerly awaiting it, and considering the choice, when “Avatar 3” releases, Mohanlal’s film will definitely be affected.
Not only this, but the release of “Avatar 3” will also impact Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar.” “Dhurandhar” will release on December 5th. However, this film will only see a two-week opening week before “Avatar 3” is released. Looking at the craze, it can be assumed that this will have a significant impact on ‘Dhurandhar’.
Avatar has a strong record in India
The first “Avatar” film was released in 2009 and grossed over ₹100 crore in India. At that time, Aamir Khan’s “Ghajini” took only a year to earn ₹100 crore at the Indian box office. In many theatres, “Avatar” continued to attract audiences year-round.
“Avatar: The Way of Water,” also known as “Avatar 2,” was released in 2022. With a net collection of over ₹378 crore, it is the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India. Its total collection is not far behind Aamir Khan’s biggest film, “Dangal” (₹387 crore), while Salman Khan’s top film, “Tiger Zinda Hai” (₹339 crore), falls behind. Before 2023, Shah Rukh Khan did not have any film worth ₹300 crore to his name. This gives an idea of the craze for “Avatar 3” and the damage it could cause to Indian films in December.
